Hi,
First off, thanks Belinda for the link.
I was diagnosed with hypothyroid at the age of five. I was placed on iodine drops for it. After two or three days of that, my biological mother called the doctor, wanted me off them, due to my being up all night drinking water because the iodine dried me out. After that I was not placed on any meds for my thyroid until I was 20, at which time I was sleeping 14 hours, up for a half hour, and sleep for another 14 hours, no problem. The longest time of sleep I had was four days straight, with no getting up for nothing. My adopted mother was so worried. She kept sending my step sister and step brother up to make sure I was still breathing even. I went to the doctors. I told him about what was going on, and about the iodine drops when I was a kid. He told me it wasn't that, it was mono, but DID test my thyroid levels while he was already at me getting blood anyway. A few days later, he phoned and said he didn't know how I was standing, walking, or even breathing. He immediately put me on the highest dose of thyroid he could with a recheck in two weeks. At the two week recheck, he was able to put me on a more "stable" dose that I could take daily without making my body feel like it was just woken up from the dead. To this day however, I still have probs with the levels being up and/or down. Mostly too low. The last visit to my doctor, my thyroid was too low again. So once again, I am on a high dosage of thyroid meds. I can't take the generic meds, as they don't do anything for me. It's like my body doesn't recognize the generic form for some reason. I go back to my doctors in two weeks, and will see how my levels are this time. He said last time I was in, three months ago, that my thyroid is shutting down, and is producing very little, if any at all, thyroid hormone on it's own. With a few other problems occurring at this time that goes along with the hypothyroidism, if the levels are low or lower, he said they will have to take my thyroid out, and just go with the meds the rest of my life. I just wish there was an even keel ya know?
I also have RSD, Reflex Sympathetic Disorder/Dystrophy, which is the opposite of MS. Since Cancer and MS run in the family, I really have to keep a check on everything. There are three cases of thyroid cancer on my bio-mother's side of the family, and two cases of colon cancer also. So cancer runs very high in my family. I just recently lost my son, my baby, to colon cancer. He was diagnosed at 16 with it, and it was caught too late. So to/for me, keeping on top of my daughter and my health is my top priority..
Anyway, I got off the beaten path, sorry. I loved the video, thank you. Thank you Belinda for the link and thank you dabbit for finding/posting it.
